Self-hosting 101: own your stack

Renting everything from the cloud is convenient right up until it isn’t. A plain-language intro to running your own.

What self-hosting is

Running the services you depend on — files, backups, media, a password vault, your own cloud — on hardware you control, instead of renting them from companies that mine and can revoke them.

Why it’s worth it

No monthly rent that only goes up, no account you can be locked out of on a whim, no third party reading your data. When the service is yours, an outage somewhere else can’t take your life offline.

Start small

You don’t need a datacenter — a single small machine runs a surprising amount. TechX Cloud and TechXPi are built for exactly this: local-first compute you own. Talk to us if you want a hand standing it up.
